Facing a big decision can be equal parts exciting, confusing, and sometimes frightening, and as Christians, we turn to God with a prayer of discernment to determine His will.
We need to see beyond the excitement, uncertainty, or fear, and see clearly which choice God wants us to make. Our lives will be more joyful and peaceful if the choices we make are aligned with God’s desire for our lives.

Prayer For Heavenly Discernment
Heavenly Father, we stand before You in prayer, humble before Your awesome majesty. We seek Your favor through the Name of Your beloved son, Jesus. Lord Jesus, You said that whenever two or three are gathered in Your Name, there You will be. We humbly ask for Your presence beside us as we pray for discernment. We know that the prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective, and yet we claim no righteousness of our own other than the righteousness of our Lord Jesus. We pray for those who seek Your guidance as they discern the choices in front of them. May the Holy Spirit who dwells in them guide them first to see the truth. Do not let them be misled by the lies and deceit of the enemy. Allow them to discern clearly with Your eyes so that they make decisions based on what is true. Teach them not to conform to the patterns of this world and renew their minds daily to live according to Your will – Your good, pleasing, and perfect will. Lord God, help them to recognize that they cannot do anything apart from that. They will make mistakes when they try to do things their way. So, we pray, Lord, that You keep them in step with Your will. May they seek You first with all their heart and in every choice they will make daily. Let those who lack wisdom approach You boldly and ask for it because You give generously to all without finding fault. May they grow in the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of all wisdom. Guide them to the people who can help them make better decisions. Send them righteous counselors, experts, and mentors who can lend their knowledge, experience, and wisdom to the things they seek to address. Free them from paralysis of analysis, wanting to know everything, and making the “perfect” decision. Give them the peace to surrender their decisions to You, our sovereign Lord. Free them from making decisions for the purpose of seeking the approval of others. Free them from the fear of disapproval of other people who may be disappointed with their decision. Instead, make them seek only to please You. Free them to make tough choices and help them to recognize that not all good decisions lead to the easiest path. Give them the strength to boldly face tough outcomes and remind them that You gave them a spirit not of timidity but of power, of love, and of self-discipline. Lead them by the hand, Lord, in all their ways. Let Your word be a lamp upon their feet and a light unto their path. Help them to be confident in Your revelation. Let them make bold choices with Your guidance. Strengthen their faith in You, as You said in Your word, “Let the righteous walk by faith.” May the outpouring of wisdom and clarity lead them to praise and glorify Your Name. All this we pray in Jesus’s Name, and God’s people said, “Amen.”

God our Father, we ask that You grant Your people guidance to see the truth and make the right choices based on the truth. Help them to plainly see their choices and the consequences of such choices. If something is being hidden from them, shine Your light to help them see the truth. Remove the lies and deceit of the enemy. Open their eyes with a fresh revelation from You so that they may see Your good, perfect, and pleasing will. May they distinctly see what is good and right in Your eyes, even if it’s not what they were hoping. And if You agree with their heart’s desire, may they praise and glorify Your Name. Father in Heaven, we pray for a sound mind and wise judgment for Your people. May they have clarity in their situation and if something is unclear or hidden from them, reveal it, Lord, with Your power. We ask that You not let Your people be deceived by falsehood and trickery. Show them the truth as they rely on You to lead them with Your guiding hand. Connect them with righteous people who can help them make the right decisions. Give them experts and mentors who can share their knowledge and experience and give them wise counsel. And if they need to make tough decisions, give them the courage to decide what is right and holy in Your eyes. May they deal wisely with the people who may be affected by such decisions. We humbly ask for all this in Jesus’s name. Amen.

Father God, we pray that You grant wisdom and discernment to Your people. As You gave Solomon wisdom, we ask that You grant a portion of that wisdom as well so that they may clearly discern the situation ahead of them. May the Holy Spirit, the Counselor of truth, help them determine what is right and true. Remove falsehoods that can cloud sound judgment. May they grow in the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of all wisdom. May they seek You and Your kingdom first. May they hunger to know the beauty of Your perfect will. Lord God, we pray for Your people as they seek their partners in life. We pray that You will lead them to righteous partners, partners who will seek You first and love You more. Help to know people who will dedicate their lives to studying and following Your Word. Help them to test their potential partners with love. Challenge them so that they can get to test their character in good times and bad. Help them to see beyond the physical attraction and reveal their true character to each other. May they seek to continuously grow in Christian character. Give them the strength to avoid temptation and sin and keep their sexual purity until their marriage. We pray for this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
