Do you find yourself happier and more thankful to God if you have more debt? Of course not! The opposite is more likely. We could find it hard to worship God when credit cards are maxed out, unpaid bills, and bank accounts are closer to zero.
So reaching out to God with a prayer to get out of debt is an important first step to breaking the chains of debt slavery in your life. And make no mistake, debt is a slaver. You become a slave to money when you are in debt.
This is literally what happened to the Jews in the Old Testament. If you can’t pay a debt, you become a slave to the lender. Today, there’s no more slavery but make no mistake, you are working for your masters – credit card companies, banks, and other lending institutions.
You need to set yourself free from debt. Can you imagine how tranquil your life would be without debt? Picture it. If you didn’t need to pay your credit cards and mortgages, wouldn’t you have a lot of money to spend, enjoy life, and give to the poor?
You would feel more blessed if you didn’t have to prioritize working for money. So make every effort to break the chains of debt and start by praying to God for help.

Powerful Prayer For Getting Out Of Debt
God our Father in Heaven, we stand before You in prayer, humble before Your fabulous presence. We pray for those who want to be free from the yoke of debt in their lives.
Lord Jesus, You said that whenever two or three are gathered in Your Name, there You will be. We humbly ask for Your presence beside us.
We know that the prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective, yet we claim no righteousness of our own other than the righteousness of our Lord Jesus.
Lord God, we ask You to break the chains of debt in their lives. You said that they could not have two masters – they cannot serve both God and money. And right now, because of debt, they are forced to serve money.
Forgive them, Lord, for the mistakes that they made that led to all of this. It could be many things – it could be overspending, living a lifestyle they cannot afford, or an unexpected emergency expense that they weren’t prepared to handle.
You know the mistakes they made. Reveal it to them. Show them clearly what they did that led to this problem. And show them what they can do to correct these mistakes to prevent more debt from coming into their lives.
Have mercy on them and free them from the harmful effects of debt. Whether it’s stress, sleepless nights, health problems, relationship problems, or something else, please rescue them, Lord.
You said, Lord, that they can cast their burdens upon You and that You would set them free from the chains that bind them. We claim these promises, Lord. Remove this heavy yoke on their shoulders.
Soften the heart of their lenders. May the lenders give them opportunities to reduce their debt, their interest payments, or their penalties. Allow them to restructure their debt to more manageable levels. Or better yet, cancel the debt altogether, if possible.
Show them meaningful opportunities to make more money, to improve their finances. Give them the boldness and sense of urgency to act quickly. Strengthen them so they can step out in faith to do the things that You have revealed to them.
Open the gates of heaven and pour out Your overflowing blessing upon them. May the outpouring of blessing lead them to praise and give thanks to Your Name.
And may You turn them into better stewards of the financial blessings that You provide them. Mold their character and lead them away from financial temptations. Remind them that they have a spirit of power and self-control.
Teach them not to be envious of others but to be happy for the success and prosperity of others. Send them mentors who can help improve their finances and give them an open mind to listen to godly advice.
We know, Lord, that You will give them freedom from debt. May You guide them and be with them always. In Jesus’ name, we pray. And God’s people said, “Amen!”.
Improving your finances is a key step to getting out of debt. Pray to God for money, and He will answer or if you’re already in debt, offer a prayer for debt cancellation.
