“For the night is dark and full of terrors.” This is one of the catchphrases In the popular TV series, Game of Thrones. While it might be fiction, there are places in the world that are truly dark, and Christians need to speak a prayer for night protection for their families and the people around them.
There are places where safety is a luxury, and the Lord’s protection is a must – places under war, places plagued by criminal elements, and places torn by racist violence. As Christians, we must recognize when our prayers are needed.
On the spiritual level, there is a battle that is always raging. Evil forces prey on the unsuspecting, and we should always be ready to defend others with one of our most powerful spiritual weapons – prayer.

God our Father in Heaven, we stand before You in prayer, humble before Your great presence. We pray for those seeking protection at night. Lord Jesus, You said that whenever two or three are gathered in Your Name, there You will be. We humbly ask for Your presence beside us. We know that the prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective, yet we claim no righteousness of our own other than the righteousness of our Lord Jesus. Lord, we claim that You are sovereign over this broken world. In spite of the evil that is around those who seek protection, You will grant them peaceful and restful sleep through the night. Protect everyone in their household and grant them rejuvenating sleep as well. Let no harm come to their households. Shield them from all evil – from the physical and spiritual forces that seek to attack them. May You also grant traveling mercies to those that need to travel at night. Let them surrender their worries unto You and take control of their surroundings. Lead them away from danger for You are the Good Shepherd and Your sheep listen to Your voice. Even though they walk through the shadow of the valley of death, they will fear no evil, for Your rod and Your staff comfort them. You are their shield, their strong tower, and their firm foundation. Allow them to put their trust in You, and let them have no fear. For if You are with them, who can be against them? Remind them to put on the spiritual armor of God always. May they always come to You in prayer for all their concerns and all their victories. May they always meditate on Your Word and let it grant them boldness in their daily life. Expand their safe borders and surround them with Your angels as they sleep, as they work, or as they travel. Whatever they do, protect them from all harm. Make them sensitive to Your voice to that they can hear clearly when You are giving them warnings. May they heed the voice of the Shepherd as You protect them through the night. May You guide them and be with them always. In Jesus’ name, we pray. And God’s people said, “Amen!”.
