Losing a loved one leads to great pain and grief. Anyone who has suffered loss can relate to the pain of losing someone you love. As dutiful Catholics, we pray for the dead in the hope that God will have mercy on them and bring their souls to heaven.
We also pray for those in mourning because they need strength, help, and comfort. This is the time for family and friends to surround the family physically and through prayer. A solemn prayer can help to bring peace to the family left behind.

Prayer For Someone Who Has Died
God our Father in Heaven, we stand before You in prayer, humble before Your great presence. In your hands, O Lord, we fully entrust those who have passed away. Lord Jesus, You said that whenever two or three are gathered in Your Name, there You will be. We humbly ask for Your presence beside us. We know that the prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective, yet we claim no righteousness of our own other than the righteousness of our Lord Jesus. So we pray for those who have died, and we ask that You continue to show them Your love in the same way that You loved them in life. Please deliver them from every evil and grant them eternal rest in heaven with You. Have mercy on them, Father God. We ask You to welcome them into paradise. Thank You that they will no longer feel sorrow, weeping, or pain and instead have eternal life with the fullness of peace and joy with Your Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. We also pray for the families they left behind. We ask that You cover them with Your embrace. Let the Holy Spirit comfort their weary hearts and give them peace and acceptance. Comfort them, Lord, as they grieve, and do not forsake them. May the memories of the departed never fade away, and may they always remember them in their hearts. May the living honor the dead by living righteously as Jesus did. May they make the most of their time here on earth and draw closer to You, o eternal God. May their eternity start now. Give them a heart that seeks after Your kingdom. Let hunger for You replace the grief in their hearts, and may they discover the fullness of joy in a relationship with You. Lord God, we come to You praying for the family of the departed. Comfort them, Lord, as they try to accept the loss of their loved one. Share in their grief and surround them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. We envy those who went to heaven early because now they start spending time with You but thank You, Lord, that You have not forsaken those who were left behind. Replace their loss with eternal hope and gain with You. Bring mountains of provisions for the family so that they will need not worry about how they can eat their daily bread. Bring them good health and long years here on earth, so they can honor the memory of those that have passed on to You. Replace their anxiety with abundant provision. Replace their grief with the absolute joy of knowing You. Replace their sorrow for the departed with a new hope for new memories, a fresh start, and new beginnings.
