While prayer is a private conversation between you and God, the Bible does teach us what we are supposed to do as true Christians. These Bible verses on praying for others helps us to understand what the Bible says about praying on behalf of other people in our life.
Some of these verses are clear and easy to follow, while others are more open to interpretation. All of them can give us a greater understanding of how to live by the word of God.
Prayers
Verses
Job 42:10
The Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and the Lord increased all that Job had twofold.
The teachings of God tells us that we should pray for those in need around us.
When true Christians are faced with trials and obstacles, we know we can turn to the Lord in prayer, who will set us free. His word in the Bible promises that our salvation is within Him and we need only to look to Him in prayer.
For unbelievers and those who are closed to the word of the Lord, they do not have this avenue.
It is easy for the fake Christian to shun the unbeliever. To leave them to their darkness and their dismay but this is not the word of God. If we have within us the zeal of God we have the opportunity and responsibility to speak God’s words of hope and love to those who have not accepted Jesus into their lives.
John 15:7
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
We know that as we pray, God will answer.
He is a great and loving God who tells us to call to him in times of need. As believers, we know that we can call upon him for ourselves but to pray on behalf of another is to show grace and mercy.
We know that God helps us when no others can.
We know that God comes through for us.
We know that God makes a way for us.
As we do not forget the blessings God has done for us, we should not forget the needs of others who have no accepted Christ into their own hearts.
Timothy 2:1
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.
God tells us to call him in prayer and we know he will answer us.
His word also tells us that we should intercede on behalf of all people. Not just ourselves and those around us. If we lift the plight of those in need through the word of God, we bring them closer to His path.
Our God is both the alpha and omega. While our own strength to help might be limited, our ability to pray on behalf of others is not. If we call to Him on behalf of others, we know he will answer. He will show us great and mighty things which we do not know.
James 5:13
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.
Before God and his son Jesus Christ, we are told to preach the word of God. As Christians, we are told to help the suffering around us and not turn from those in happiness or in pain.
As Christians, we are told to fulfill our ministry, which means to pray on behalf of others even when we know they sin against God, perhaps especially when they do.
A true child of God and a true Christian should speak truth and love in the face of pain and sin. When others turn from God and His teaching, our role is not to shun and ignore them but to pray on their behalf and offer them solace.
